Is It Time to Visit the Dentist?

Your dental cleaning pops up on the calendar, but you’re so busy! Is it time to visit the dentist again? What if you put it off another 6 months, just this once? If you’re tempted to skip, we hear you! But here’s why regular visits are so important.

Keeping Your Teeth Healthy

You probably know that dental care is important. That’s why you brush and floss regularly! But are regular visits to the dentist really needed, too? Is it time to visit the dentist already?

Brushing and flossing daily is important to help keep your teeth clean and free from food debris, plaque, and bacteria, but even the best at-home dental care routine can still miss some spots between the teeth, along the gumline, or around back molars.

Allowing these trouble spots to go unaddressed for too long can result in cavities or gum disease developing, so it’s important to catch them early. That’s why dental exams and professional dental cleanings are so important to keep your teeth healthy.

Dental Exams

When you visit the dentist for a routine visit, your dentist will examine your teeth and gums. This is to check for things like plaque build-up or soft spots in your enamel (the outer layer of your teeth). They’ll also measure your gums to check for signs of inflammation which can be an early indication of gum disease.

Dental Cleanings

When you visit the dentist, you should also get a dental cleaning done. During a dental cleaning, a dental hygienist will use special tools to scrape off tartar build-up and stains that a toothbrush alone can’t remove. They will also clean along your gum line to help ensure that your gums stay healthy. Then at the end of your cleaning, the dental hygienist will polish your teeth with a special tooth polish to brighten your smile.

Get on that Dental Visit!

Is it time to visit the dentist again? Make it a priority! You won’t regret it. Your smile is important, and it’s always worth the effort to put your health first so you can keep your smile feeling and looking its healthiest and best.

Call our Dowagiac Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.

Dear Patient:

We have been thinking about you and hope that you and your family are safe and healthy. Everyone has been through a lot and is ready to start normal routines again. As we welcome you back to our office, we want to reassure you that your safe treatment here is our number one goal.

We are following the most recent advice from the CDC and our professional organizations to make changes to keep you, our other patients, and our staff, safe from infection. Some changes include:

• Our staff will ask you screening questions before your appointment.
• Please use the hand sanitizer that we have available when you come into the office.
• We have removed hard-to-disinfect items in the waiting room to make it easier to clean frequently during the day.
• We are allowing more time between appointments to manage social distancing between patients.
• We may ask you to wait in your car instead of the waiting room.
• We also ask that you come into the office alone. If necessary, one caregiver or family member may come in with the patient.
• We may take your temperature before your appointment.
• You may see that all staff, including the front office staff, will be wearing masks.
• We ask that everyone who enters the office wear a face covering or mask.
• There may be other changes as we try to keep social distancing to six feet.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we are taking to keep you, and every patient, safe in our office. Please call our office at 269-782-5161 or visit our website if you have any questions or to make an appointment.

Thank you for your understanding.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Dowagiac Family Dentistry
