How to Brush Your Teeth Better

by Dowagiac Family Dentistry | Jul 1, 2022 | Dental Hygiene

How to Brush Your Teeth Better

If you care about your dental health, we know you try hard to brush your teeth diligently. But have you talked with your dentist about your brushing technique and tools? Using the correct brushing technique and tools is important because it can make the difference between effective and ineffective brushing. Let’s talk about how to brush your teeth better to help ensure the best results.

Use the Right Toothpaste

Many people don’t know that there are many different types of toothpaste designed to fit many different needs. Do you experience tooth discomfort? A sensitive toothpaste can help to calm sensitive nerves in your teeth. Do you want your smile to look brighter? There are toothpastes with extra whitening ingredients. There are also toothpastes with extra fluoride, tartar control, and remineralizing properties.

An ADA-approved, fluoride-containing toothpaste is the bare minimum to look for when searching for the right toothpaste. Each person has unique dental needs. Talk with your dentist at your next appointment about which ingredients you should look for so you can find the toothpaste that will best meet your individual dental care needs.

Use the Right Toothbrush

Just like the right toothpaste, using the right toothbrush for your dental care needs can make a world of difference. Many dentists recommend brushing with an electric toothbrush because of the many added benefits they offer.

If you’re looking to learn how to brush your teeth better, the features on an electric toothbrush can help. From built-in timers to pressure sensors that tell you when you’re brushing too hard to the ability to connect with smartphone apps to track your brushing habits and technique, making the switch to an electric toothbrush can really take your brushing to the next level.

Use the Right Technique

Last but not least, if you’re looking for ways to brush your teeth better, using the right technique is crucial! A brushing app with an electric toothbrush can provide real-time brushing technique feedback for easy daily reminders to help you stay on track with your brushing habits.

It’s also a great idea to ask your dentist about proper brushing technique at your next dental visit. They’ll be happy to talk with you about how to brush your teeth better and demonstrate the correct 45-degree angle and technique to use to help ensure that each tooth is cleaned thoroughly yet gently for optimum results.

Call our Dowagiac Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.

Dear Patient:

We have been thinking about you and hope that you and your family are safe and healthy. Everyone has been through a lot and is ready to start normal routines again. As we welcome you back to our office, we want to reassure you that your safe treatment here is our number one goal.

We are following the most recent advice from the CDC and our professional organizations to make changes to keep you, our other patients, and our staff, safe from infection. Some changes include:

• Our staff will ask you screening questions before your appointment.
• Please use the hand sanitizer that we have available when you come into the office.
• We have removed hard-to-disinfect items in the waiting room to make it easier to clean frequently during the day.
• We are allowing more time between appointments to manage social distancing between patients.
• We may ask you to wait in your car instead of the waiting room.
• We also ask that you come into the office alone. If necessary, one caregiver or family member may come in with the patient.
• We may take your temperature before your appointment.
• You may see that all staff, including the front office staff, will be wearing masks.
• We ask that everyone who enters the office wear a face covering or mask.
• There may be other changes as we try to keep social distancing to six feet.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we are taking to keep you, and every patient, safe in our office. Please call our office at 269-782-5161 or visit our website if you have any questions or to make an appointment.

Thank you for your understanding.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Dowagiac Family Dentistry
